COPY THIS TEMPLATE LETTER TO YOUR COUNCILLOR

To [name of councillor],

I am writing to you as a constituent of [your ward], because I believe that as a local resident, I should be able to help inform what our recovery from COVID-19 will look like. Currently, there is an unprecedented and undeniable public support for a green recovery. The question is not whether the government should take action, but how.

Having an inclusive and participatory approach to a green recovery will help ensure that it will benefit as many people in [your ward] as possible, as well as the planet. For example, I feel that [how do you think your local community could benefit in a green recovery? E.g. invest more money in retrofitting homes, create more cycle lanes, improve our local public transport system, facilitating using renewable energy, protecting our natural spaces] should be a priority in this area’s recovery.

I appreciate that many councils have limited time and resources, and that is why I ask you to consider the People’s Plan digital platform to gather resident insights on wishes for a green recovery. Their platform will be piloted in coming months, launched fully in 2021, and is free to use. To find out more you can visit their website (http://peoplesplan.org/consultation) and email them at info@peoplesplan.org.

Yours sincerely,

[your name]
